Fantastic Recorder
I actually purchased this directly from American Musical Supply (don't be upset Amazon you're still my main source)! And I just wanted to let anyone who's looking for a great recorder that, this is it! I use it to practice karaoke at home, and it OUTPERFORMS and out features the "VocoPro Recode-1" by at least 20 times as I have that model also!
Great quality parts but terrible software
I bought this a bit under a year ago and was impressed. Recording quality is crisp and clean and the microphones pick up the full range of frequencies very well.
Other people wrote that it's great for recording musical ideas -- as far as I can tell, it is -- but I am less-than-satisfied about how the device handles the things I try and throw at it: sampling/field recording, and high quality recording via the line-in.
On the sampling side, this device does a GREAT job in all areas except for one -- the built-in limiter, which makes a loud popping noise when it kicks in, is poorly programmed. I was expecting a mild pumping -- this is what basic limiters should sound like -- and instead this thing slams the signal way too hard and causes the whole thing to cut out. Worse, it does so on only on the stereo channel that clipped, and when it does so that channel will drop out for a second before returning to normal. This is especially bad in windy situations as the wind will trigger the limiter so much that the resulting recording is virtually unusable. I really didn't think it was possible to screw up simple brick-wall limiting, but there you go.
The DR-07 works well for my other use case, but it's not without problems: line-in recording sounds great, with a nice low (inaudible, though I'm not really doing things that expose it) noise floor. Thing is, recording that signal in 48/24 drains AA batteries crazy fast. It would appear that you get two hours of recording time, tops. This is considerably less if you record in MP3, but as I am recording turntable DJ sets that may see further processing (normalization, distribution in a variety of formats), I generally prefer to avoid MP3 recording. 44/16 recording is a bit better, battery-life-wise, but in both cases recording uncompressed audio nets you far less battery time than the thing advertises.
Prior complaints about handling noise being a bit much are accurate, and personally I navigating the menus to be confusing and unintuitive (the way you move forward and backwards through menus is very poorly thought out).
All these things being said, the DR-07 has a solid feel to it. If you can strip away its limitations from the way you use it -- which isn't that hard, since both of my complaints can be worked around -- you will have a solid digital recorder in your hands.
Good recorder
This is a great device. Regarding the noise...just don't touch it. It is very easy to use and fits my needs. It does chew through batteries like crazy though.
Great little tool for mobile recording!
I've had my eye on one of these for a little while, and when I saw it for 7, I jumped on it. I got this recorder because I wanted a way to grab good digital quality sound, while camping. I like to bring my guitar along on camping trips, and I haven't been able to record any of the audio in high quality. This little baby does a great job of it. You can adjust the gain and frequency of the input, so you're not significantly limited on options. You can also purchase a seperate 3.5mm to XLR cable that plugs into the input, for times when you want a diferent/higher quality microphone.
Don't be disillusioned into thinking you're getting a multi-track recording system though. This is a tool that could be used as a way to capture individual tracks, but you'd have to be multi-track savvy and have a seperate program to do that type of recording.
Bottom line... if you're looking for a way to capture those moments that may never happen again, in very high quality... this is a great product for the money.

sound quality is excellent. comes with a mic condom (for "safe dubbing"). stereo mics. good read-out screen. Excellent in all ways! Worth every penny!
