Works great on a PC and pretty well on a Mac
I purchased this mixer because I needed the discreet channel input to Logic Studio 9. Most USB mixers only provide the two main mix channels. I have to say the Alesis works wonderfully on a PC, but the OS X driver is still in beta. I am able to map each individual channel to a separate track in Logic Pro (9.1.1) but Core Audio in OS X only sees channels 1 and 2. This is working OK for now, but I'm hoping a driver update by Alesis will come soon so each mixer channel will be recognized by the OS for use in other software like WireTap and Ustream.
The mic pres are clean and have worked well with my Heil PR40 and Shure SM58. Latency is about the same as I've experienced on other firewire mixers (M-Audio NRV-10 & Alesis MM 12 FW). This mixer has way more channels than I need but is the only one I could find that provided discreet recording through USB. As firewire goes away, this will be an important feature in the future.

Unreliable. Barely lasted a year.
I bought the Alesis Multimix 16USB 2.0 in June of 2008. In July of 2009, just out of warranty, it developed a loud hum which makes it unusable. (No, it's not a ground loop. It is even there in the headphone output with all inputs disconnected.)
My Alesis Ion was even worse, having the encoder knob jitter problem and requiring service. At least that failure occurred under warranty.
It's a shame. In the QS6/7/8 era, Alesis made some high quality, reliable, and high value products. Now, it's poorly engineered junk. Pay a bit more and go with a Yamaha or Mackie.
